Rolando Ania, M.D.

Dr. Rolando Ania graduated medical school from University of Havana, where his extensive clinical training was focused on a patient centered approach. He then completed his Internal Medicine Internship at University of Illinois at Chicago, and Jesse Brown VA, in Chicago. He went on to complete Neurology training at Cleveland Clinic, where he also was distinguished as a Chief Resident. Dr. Ania has triple Board Certifications. He is a Diplomate in Neurology, as well as Epilepsy with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also a Diplomate in Electrodiagnostic Medicine with the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Ania has been recognized for his contributions to medical education, and currently functions as an Associate Professor of Neurology for University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. He has been recognized with Excellence in Teaching Awards. Dr. Ania has served as a Medical Expert reviewer for The Nevada State Medical Board. Dr. Ania was recently elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN), a designation held at the highest standard of the Academy in recognition of the valuable contributions of those to the Academy and the neurology community at large.

Dr. Ania relocated to Reno, Nevada in 2016, serving as Director of Epilepsy, Section Chief for Neuro-diagnostics, and ultimately as Division Chief of Neurology for Renown Health.  Dr. Ania is fluent in Spanish and English.

Outside of his professional commitment to the well-being of his patients and his passion for teaching, Dr. Ania enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, and spending time with his pets.

Julie Hilario, APRN

Julie Hilario, APRN, graduated nursing school from San Diego State University, and received extensive training and experience in a Progressive Care Unit, focused on strokes and heart attacks. Upon relocating to Reno, she further honed her clinical skills in the peri-operative and post-surgical areas.

Deciding to fulfill her inner desire to have a more direct and impactful influence on patient care, Julie attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing. While there, she was mentored and trained by Dr. Rolando Ania with a focus on epilepsy and neuropathy.

Since obtaining her APRN designation, Julie joined Renown Institute for Neuroscience under the direction of Dr. Ania, where she acquired additional training in the evaluation and management of strokes, headaches, and other neurological conditions. She also became proficient in procedural skills such as Botox injections for migraine prevention, and punch biopsies for the diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy.

Julie is an active Neurology Community Faculty for University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. In 2020, she was a nominee for the Northern Nevada Nurses Association Award for Advanced Practice Nurse. Julie has received a prestigious certification through the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses as a Seizure and Epilepsy Healthcare Professional in a Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Julie is fluent in Filipino and English.

When not serving her community, Julie likes to spend time with her family traveling, sight-seeing, and trying new cuisines. She’s also never opposed to a relaxing night at home with her pet dog and binge-watching the latest K-Dramas.
